Rebekah Alvarez
Artist Statement: In each piece that I make, I put all of my effort and heart into. With all of my work, I take into consideration everything I’ve learned from my amazing teachers here at Clark so that I can do the best that I can.
Bio: Rebekah Alvarez is a senior in high school, attending her second year at Clark through the Running Start program. From a very young age, she has had a passion for art and got the opportunity of attending an art school at the age of six. Through the years, she has sold commissioned art pieces and hopes to continue pursuing this in the future.

Emmeline Campen
Artist Statement: I like to work with all kinds of mediums, but my favorites are digital illustration and pastels. A lot of my concepts are driven by how I feel in the moment, sort of like a journal, and that causes my style to change from piece to piece. I’ve created everything from tiny simplistic cartoons to an elaborate, larger than life self-portrait, but each piece reflects what was on my mind and heart at the time.
Bio: I am a second-year graphic design student graduating this June. I am a huge empath and I love getting to understand people, including myself, and I see that manifesting in my art all the time. I plan on spending this next year in Southern California getting some sunshine, studying at a small Bible college, and gaining new perspectives on the world!

Medium: Oil pastel on paper
Course: ART104, Observational Drawing
Professor: Grant Hottle
Melanie Cowden
Artist Statement: I use graphite, ink, or paint to replicate the human form. I am most inspired by facial features: so much so that the whole idea for each art piece is to create a unique face.
Bio: I am an 18 year old artist living in Amboy, Washington. I make an effort to transcribe facial features through each brush/ pencil/ ink stroke.

Samantha Coyle
Artist Statement: I have always been moved by the medium of charcoal. The ability to move it around so easily, unlike graphite, gives challenge and easy simultaneously. My idea is to capture a moment in time, mainly showing how light, at that moment, casted down.
Bio: I am a Running Start student from La Center High School and I am planning on transferring to the University of Washington. Up there, I will pursue an architecture degree. I longboard quite frequently, mainly doing longboard dancing; freestyle is quite difficult and daunting for me.
Title of Piece: “Ceramic”
Medium: Charcoal on paper
Course: ART103, Drawing 1
Professor: Ray Cooper
Gwendolyn Dallum
Artist Statement: My artwork is a reflection of my thoughts, feelings, and inspirations. From a young age, I was inspired by Barbies, dolls, and observing people. I was fascinated by the detail in the human figure as well as how to capture clothing. As I got older, I experimented with landscape and animals. My father is from South Dakota and the many vacations we went on inspired the western side of me. I work from a variety of material and love my oil pastel creations the most.
Bio: Starting around 3-4 years of age, I loved to draw. My mother kept a binder full of my drawings from each school year and most of them contained the human figure. I used drawing as a therapy and could spend hours creating artwork. I feel my creative childhood was a great foundation for how I see and create art projects today.
Title of Piece: “My Version of At The Edge of So Many Tomorrows”
Medium: Oil pastel on paper
Course: ART203, The Human Figure I
Professor: Ray Cooper
Karyssa Davidson
Artist Statement: I mainly work in graphite, since it's what I'm most used to, and it allows me to make changes or fix mistakes. I feel driven to create by the people and situations in my life, and often also the music I listen to. I really enjoy creating pieces that either represent things that I love, or that convey feelings or situations I'm experiencing but struggle to articulate with words.
Bio: I'm 22 and have been drawing as a hobby since a young age, and this last year I started taking art classes at Clark to take my skills further. I'm interested in both art and psychology and hope to make both of them a part of my career in the future.

Patrick Foley
Artist Statement: I want to make art, or at least something that could be defined as art. I try to dabble in as many different media as possible. I think some things are better represented in one media more than others. For instance: a painting of a PB&J will never be as good as the real thing.
Bio: I was a chef for many years. Coincidentally, I was also able to travel extensively. I traded in my backpack and kitchen tools for art supplies, and I’m starting a new journey.

Ariel Hricziscse
Artist Statement: I usually create pieces for myself - something I enjoy looking at or that has a special meaning to me. For the most part, I enjoy creating art based on the natural world that sends positive vibes. In addition, I have made a few drawings based on less than ideal situations such as hospice care and also medication dependence. I prefer to use my art as an outlet to look on the lighter side of life.
Bio: I am a hobby artist. I have always felt a strong need for a creative outlet and I enjoy dabbling in various types of art. I have loved coloring and drawing ever since I could hold a pencil or a crayon. I see being creative as an essential part of my life no matter my circumstances or resources. I also enjoy encouraging others to tap into their creative powers.

Zoe Jouwsma
Artist Statement: I mostly work with acrylic paint but I wanted to take an art class to learn the basics of art. With the bright colors in the background, this piece shows my childlike thoughts I have. When you move to the graphite section, it shows the darkness within the year 2020 and the pandemic.
Bio: I've grown up in the small town of Woodland, WA. Even though my parents aren't very artistic, my late grandma was an artist of many trades. She is the reason why I do this and I'm excited to grow and change in my artistic journey.

Artist Statement: My art style is based on my personal identity and life. I love to incorporate my culture, whether it’s drawing traditional Korean scroll art or including the colors from the Korean flag. I strive for my work to represent me. I tend to use acrylic paint, charcoal, graphite, and Micron pens for my artwork.
Bio: I come from a creative family, who has inspired and supported my artwork since the day I was interested in creating projects. I’m currently majoring in business and minoring in fine arts. I hope to one day have a career that’s based on creating and designing artwork for the company I currently work at.

Tabitha Moldovan
Artist Statement: The mediums I use for most of my art are graphite and charcoal. I get my ideas from things that were/are very important to me (faith, volleyball, music, school, etc.) and environments around my house.
Bio: My name is Tabitha Moldovan. I am seventeen years old and this is my first year as a Running Start student! My goal as a student at Clark is to hopefully fulfill my dream of becoming a baby nurse in the NICU. I have always wanted to get better at drawing so I took a class here at Clark. This helped me open up to new ideas and put me out of my comfort zone. I love to play volleyball, sing, and play piano.

Jessica Peters
Artist Statement: I’m an artist that lets inspiration find me. When I see something beautiful, it inspires me to draw. I’m influenced by reality. I want my subject to see themselves in my work. I draw what comes to mind or something that caught my eye. I am really inspired by colors. My art is semi-realistic using traditional media.
Bio: I have always been a creative person. I started out writing stories in high school but then decided I wanted to put out beautiful food and desserts. I went to culinary school (twice) and really excelled with that, but the industry is not a fun place to be. I got back into writing short stories and motivational paragraphs and I went back to school for art because I wanted to take my stories and illustrate them.
Title of Piece: “Figure”
Medium: Pastel on paper
Course: ART203, The Human Figure I
Professor: Ray Cooper
Molly Sarkinen
Artist Statement: I have recently been learning to draw. I was delighted to realize that when I pick up my pencils, time loses meaning. I get lost in what I am creating. I am currently working with graphite and charcoal. I can't wait to try different mediums and see where my artwork goes! I am grateful to be learning something that is so deeply gratifying.
Bio: Hi, I'm Molly! I grew up in a rural area with a large family and have a deep appreciation for nature but also a love of the big city. I am an introverted, optimistic daydreamer and I strive to find beauty wherever I can.
Title of Piece: “Local Naturalist”
Medium: Graphite on paper
Course: ART103, Drawing I
Professor: Grant Hottle
Grayson Sullivan
Artist Statement: For my art, I enjoy using materials that are more basic like charcoal or graphite. It reminds me of doodling in notebooks when I was a kid. Most of the ideas I have for my art come from my current ambition in life. What I want to do usually dictates what I want to draw.
Bio: I am a 17 year old, born and raised in Washington. I have loved drawing my entire life. My favorite part of it has to be how relaxing it is. I can make any sort of mistake and it doesn't matter at all because I can turn it into a unique aspect of my art.
Title of Piece: “Portrait of a Boy in Charcoal”

Artist Statement: My art practice revolves around drawing with charcoal and oil painting, with a heavy focus on realism. I like creating people and emulating the beauty behind life. Whenever I see a person that inspires me, I have to create them.
Bio: Art has been my passion since I was very young. I was always creating things with my big imagination. I find that drawing and painting are great emotional outlets, and good ways to express myself. Self-expression is very important to me, so I enjoy expressing myself through art.
