Title: “Calling Hospice”

Medium: Charcoal and Conte crayon on paper

Artist Statement: I usually create pieces for myself, something I enjoy looking at or that has a special meaning to me. For the most part, I enjoy creating art based on the natural world that sends positive vibes. In addition, I have made a few drawings based on less-than-ideal situations, such as hospice care and also medication dependence. I prefer to use my art as an outlet to look on the lighter side of life.

Bio: I am a hobby artist. I have always felt a strong need for a creative outlet and enjoy dabbling in various types of art. I have loved coloring and drawing ever since I could hold a pencil or a crayon. I see being creative as an essential part of my life, no matter my circumstances or resources. I also enjoy encouraging others to tap into their creative powers.

Title: “Self Portrait”

Medium: Acrylic paint, color pencils, Micron pens, Sharpie, masking tape on paper

Artist Statement: My art style is based on my personal identity and life. I love to incorporate my culture, whether it’s drawing traditional Korean scroll art or including the colors from the Korean flag. I strive for my work to represent me. I tend to use acrylic paint, charcoal, pencils, and Micron pens for my artwork.

Bio: I come from a creative family, who has inspired and supported my artwork since the day I was interested in creating projects. I’m currently majoring in business and minoring in fine arts. I hope to one day have a career that’s based on creating and designing artwork for the company I currently work at.

Title: “Just because my path is different, doesn't mean I'm lost”

Medium: Analog black and white film

Artist Statement: I absolutely love photography. I love to take different pictures of people. Catching people off guard or staging a picture to make the viewer intrigued and thoughtful about the meaning behind it. In the following images, our class prompt for the week was to take many different creative pictures that portray the elements of design on a film camera. My goal was to show culture through some of my pictures throughout the entire project. In the following pictures, I was trying to take a picture that most people normally take, but play around with the angles and think of new ways to take the picture.

Bio: I am a Running Start student and this is my third quarter here at Clark College. Outside of schoolwork, I have a lot of extra-curricular activities that are centered around music. I enjoy singing which is why I am involved in our church choir, a worship group, and I sing solos occasionally. On the other hand, I also enjoy playing the piano. This is more of a hobby, but I have been playing the piano for about 10 years now.

Title: “Contemporary Necklace”

Medium: Concrete

Artist Statement: Art, for me, has been a creative outlet and a way to connect and explore. I've always been overly analytical and art has allowed me to expose my creative side and break away from my analytical side. Through art, I continue to learn about the endless possibilities that exist within one's creative self.

Bio: I'm 25 years old and still very much in the experimental stages of creating art. I love not considering myself as an artist because I feel that it allows me to be fluid in my methods and perspective. Wherever my path takes me in life, I will be forever grateful for what art has opened my eyes to.

Title: “Fred”

Medium: Paper collage

Artist Statement: I want to make art, or at least something that could be defined as art. I try to dabble in as many different media as possible. I think some things are better represented in one media more than others. For instance; a painting of a PB&J will never be as good as the real thing.

Bio: I was a chef for many years. Coincidentally, I was also able to travel extensively. I traded in my backpack and kitchen tools for art supplies, and I’m starting a new journey.

Title: “Antitheses Wither and Thrive”

Medium: Original photography and hand written typography

It is her favorite way to process emotions, share experiences, and relate to the world around her. She dabbles in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, photography, and digital art.

Bio: Kaitie Rae Sekely is excited to be pursing her passions and developing a career in graphic design and illustration. Her goal is to create works that unite people, communicate a message, and challenge the viewer to see things differently.

Title: “Family Road Trip”

Medium: Ceramic

Artist Statement: This piece embodies the spontaneity, craziness, and multi-faceted aspects of a family road trip. The abstract design takes the viewer on a journey, one with pauses, stops, or detours, and the various colors bring to life the feelings, personalities, and relationships that one may experience on an adventure. There are also different sized cups and bowls for each member, and it is up to the viewer's interpretation to decide who gets which bowl and cup. This road trip doesn't have to be a cliché of the "normal" nuclear family, but rather like the nature of the random designs, the cups and bowls can represent anyone or anything.

Bio: After graduating university last May in the midst of the pandemic, like many, I was at a loss of what to do. Thankfully I was able to take a year off to discover what I wanted to pursue in my life. During that time I reflected on my values and interests and remembered my passion for art. Through taking classes at Clark College, I am able to learn and push my creativity which was neglected for so long.
